Run your car on water? [12 Nov 2007|01:47am]

Basically, an electric charge seperates water into it's component hydrogen and oxygen gases, which are sent into the combustion chamber as gasoline and air is now.

I wonder if it'd really work? Any shade-tree mechanics out there got an engine they want to tinker with?

1983 944 For Sale (Tempe, AZ, USA) [26 Sep 2007|08:49am]

_metro_
So I have to get surgery on my clutch ankle. This means no 5-speeds for me for a while. Because of this, I'm thinking of clearing out the stables a little bit.

I have a 1983 Porsche 944 (running a '87 motor & 87 turbo transmission). For an unrestored nearly 25 year old car she's in very good shape.

Known issues on the car: (I've been too busy/lazy to fix them)
Windshield is split and needs replacing.
A/C control switch is bad.
CV Boots need replacing.

Based on current market prices, I'm asking $2,500 firm. I don't really want to get rid of the car, but it's just going to sit for the next 6 months, and I have an Austin Healey 3000 I want to restore that's stuck in storage until I make garage space.

Introduction [23 Oct 2005|10:10pm]

_metro_
Hey folks... I joined and figured I'd introduce myself.

I'm Jody and I have a car habit. :)

presently in the collection:

1953 Studebaker Champion
1959 Studebaker Lark (Stude-Power hot rod project)
1974 Jensen Healey
1983 Porsche 944
1985 Porsche 944

Presently I'm driving the '83. The '59 is a long term ground up build (I'm on the body cleaning, cancer removal, welding stage). The '74 is a true british car which means the remains of the old wiring are currently laying on my garage floor as the new harness goes in (which I have had to make custom, what a bugger). The '53 gets driven occasionally, but is due for an engine rebuilt, paint and interior. the '85 is currently in LA awaiting a radiator and ball joint.

Cheers!

Pimped your ride? Get ready to pay... [18 Jul 2005|02:10am]

Fancy wheels, electronics and tuner gear cost you thousands upfront -- and now you’re a target for thieves and insurers as well.

By Christopher Solomon

It hasn’t taken long for the tricked-out "whips" of rap stars in Dub magazine and sleek Hondas in Hollywood movies like "The Fast and the Furious" to influence the looks of what’s cruising the suburban streets of Anytown, U.S.A.

Well-heeled, graying hobbyists are enjoying a second childhood with "boomer tuners." Soccer moms pilot SUVs with 20-inch chrome wheels and in-dash DVD players and thumping sound systems. Gigantic pickups are festooned like sports cars with scoops, spoilers, stripes and aerodynamic ground effects.

"You’re seeing it in mainstream entertainment, you’re seeing it in music videos and movies and video games -- and heck, there’s 30 television shows that are on the air right now that are promoting and underscoring the satisfaction that you get from fixing up your car," says Peter MacGillivray, vice president of marketing and communications for the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA).

Shows like MTV’s "Pimp My Ride" and Spike TV’s "Ride with Funkmaster Flex" are popular. The specialty automotive industry in the U.S has grown 80% over the last decade and is now a $31 billion market, MacGillivray says.

The reason? "Vehicles are not an appliance anymore. They’re an extension of your personality."

The downside to it...Collapse )

Accord parts [22 Jan 2005|02:19am]

jmvuitton
I bought some parts to fix up my car but I'm selling the car so parts are being sold as well. So here are parts I have that I can't return since it's been over 30 days.

All parts will fit on 98-02 accord sadan models and they're all brand new. I also listed how much I paid for it and how much I'm asking for. Or you can make best offer. If they don't sell here first, I will list them on ebay.

All neon lights will fit ANY cars. I also have 2 packages of HID lights. Each package contain 2 bulbs and model number is Sylvania Silverstar 9006 ST/2, which is the brightest. Might want to check out what other car models it will fit.

I'm also listing a pair of headlights for my boyfriend's car. He just got new altezza lights so we're selling the stock one. It's for 99-03 Mitsubishi Galant sedans.

If interested, my email is jmvuitton@gmail.com. If you'd rather talk on the phone, email me and I'll send you my cell number.

Drags? [03 Jan 2005|10:11pm]

Sup all, just wondering if any of you know of any tracks we can race at and/or get times on quarter mile runs. I don't really want to drive all the way over to PIR if i can avoid it and I'm tired of getting pulled over by po' po'. Also how much does it cost and when are there the most people racing? I would assume Friday and Saturday, but what time?

I currently drive a '00 Audi TT FWD, pic on my LJ.
Have owned a '01 Ford Explorer Sport Trac-Black
'98 Ford Mustang Cobra-Black
'99 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-Silver

hey, nice to find a group for local gearheads. i'm jason, 26, and car-obsessed/addicted.

what i've owned over the past 10 years:
'84 toyota celica gt
'91 nissan sentra se-r
'86 toyota celica gt-s
'92 vw jetta gl
'98 vw gti-vr6 de
'97 vw golf gl
'89 toyota celica turbo all-trac
'97 vw gti-vr6
'91 nissan sentra se-r
'87 vw gti w/ 2.0-16v swap
'85 toyota mr2
'95 nissan 240sx
'91 nissan 240sx coupe
'89 bmw 325is (current car)

i'm all about upgrades, but in the year since i bought the 3-series life has been hectic, so i've only managed to get a set of 15" wheels and the shorter-geared differential from an early M5 into it. i'm still collecting all the parts needed for a complete suspension upgrade; after i'm done with that i'll either be working on a home-brewed turbo setup for it, or buying an early all-wheel-drive DSM (eclipse/talon).

anyway, hi (:

Ok is it me or is there a cop on every corner recently? Within five minutes tonight I saw three seperate cops, each with someone pulled over. It's rediculous. One in my residential neighborhood... one on the 101... and one down beardsley. What's going on. I'm starting to get paranoid.

Well it looks like we're sticking at 4 members (well 3) for a while. *shrug* If you could have any dream car... what would it be. Now yes I would have an orgasm if I owned an F1 McLaren... But I would love more then anything to have either a Ferrari 550 Barchetta or a Ferrari 575 Maranello as a daily driver.
